Why freedom matters
#createyourstyle: In its new campaign, Schwarzkopf celebrates personality and motivates you to be the best version of yourself! Freedom gives you the opportunity to look like you want to look. Or to do what you want to do – like model David. Sometimes you feel pressured into doing things or wearing looks you don't like, but freedom also means the freedom to choose and the freedom to say No
When you're free, you can do what you want to do. Or not do what you don't want. Without external constraint, nothing and no one can hold you back. Freedom isn't just something enabled by society around you. ”For me, freedom is the most important thing“, says model David in the video below. Freedom starts inside your own head. Often we limit our own opportunities by telling ourselves, „No, I can't, it's impossible, it won't work out.“ By talking yourself out of opportunities, you limit your own personal growth.
Model David tells us in this video what freedom means to him:
Freedom is... looking the way you want to look
Your fashion and hair styling choices can be limited by external or internal factors. Maybe others have told you you shouldn't wear this or that look. Hair styles or colours are similarly limited by received opinions. You tell yourself that a straight bob wouldn't suit you or that you're the type for long hair. Or you find reasons why red hair or pink ends aren't right for you, so you end up wearing the same hair colour your entire life – the one you happen to be born with. But if you keep holding yourself back, you'll never be the best version of yourself. Model David went beyond his comfort zone by choosing a short buzzcut – the look that he likes best on himself.
Model David's look: A mix of chic and casual – anything goes!
Of course, freedom shouldn't end with yourself. Everyone has the right to look and style themselves whatever way they like. That's why it's important to allow others the same freedom you allow yourself, in particular those who wear an extravagant style or a look that doesn't appeal to you personally. That doesn't mean doling out compliments for looks you don't like, but considering that different looks are a part of the enriching variety that makes life better.
We admit: Sometimes being free isn't easy. Neither is freeing yourself from things that hold you back. All you need is little reminders and motivators. For example the following quotes, written on post-its and stuck anywhere you might need a little daily inspiration:
”Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.“
Albert Camus
“The secret of happiness is freedom … And the secret to freedom is courage.“
Thucydides
“Style – all who have it share one thing: originality.“
Diana Vreeland
“I’m a multidimensional person and that’s the freedom of fashion: that you’re able to reinvent yourself through how you dress abd how you cut your hair or whatever.“
Emma Watson
“With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?“
Oscar Wilde
“When you don’t dress like everyone else, you don’t have to think like everyone else.“
Iris Apfel
“I’ll tell you what freedom is to me. No fear.“
Nina Simone
“I stand for freedom of expression, doing what you believe in, and going after your dreams.“
Madonna
“Not caring more about what other people think than what you think. That’s freedom.“
Demi Moore
“Be who you are. Not who the world wants you to be.“
Coco Chanel
