Modern, feminine, elegant – those are the exciting hair highlights in the new year. You are sure to find a trend for any length, colour, texture and type of woman. One of them: Big City Waves. The trend’s defining features: Natural, voluminous glamour waves in a loose and dazzling presentation

This look guarantees a grand appearance: 'When a woman enters a restaurant with hair like that, heads are going to turn – simply because it is sexy,' says Armin Morbach. Big City Waves lend volume and steadfastness to hair without appearing stiff. Thanks to the airy texture, the look works during the day and also in the evening. It represents strong, urban women who like to highlight their femininity with a lot of understatement. From romantic and fairy-like with red hair to exotic and seductive with a dark mane – but always elegant.

Our stylings show how variable this trend hairstyle is:

  • Big City Waves in the Romantic Look (See Above)

    1. Distribute mousse in damp hair and knead it in.

    2. Loosen up the hair with your fingers while blow drying. Do not brush!

    3. Apply heat protectant and curl thin strands of hair with a curling iron (midsize diameter).

    4. Allow the hair to cool and gently loosen up the curly mane with your fingers.

    5. Form a side parting and secure the style with hairspray.

    1. Apply a palm sized portion of mousse to damp hair and knead it in from the hairline to the ends.

    2. Blow dry the hair, slightly loosening up the individual strands with your fingers.

    3. Apply heat protectant and then curl the hair with a large curling iron.

    4. Part the hair off to the side and make a French braid going across at ear height.

    5. Fasten the end of the braid with a thin hair elastic and secure with hair pins.

    6. Distribute a small amount of volumising powder through the lengths and pluck the waves into shape with your fingers.

    7. Finally, secure the style with hairspray.

    1. Knead volumising foam into wet hair from the hairline to the ends.

    2. Blow dry the hair and pluck it into shape with your fingertips.

    3. Apply heat protectant and then curl the hair with a large curling iron.

    4. Toss the curls over the head and apply hairspray to the style. Toss the hair back the other way.

    5. Form a side parting (not an exact line!) and lay the hair over one shoulder.

    6. Finally, secure the Big City Waves style with hairspray again (ideally in short bursts).

    1. Knead mousse (such as taft curling mousse) into damp hair.

    2. Form a centre parting and braid your hair strand by strand into small plaits. (Good to know: The smaller the braids, the more delicate the resulting waves)

    3. Blow dry the hair and allow the braided mane to cool.

    4. Open the plaits and pluck the waves into shape with your fingers.

    5. Apply hairspray and you are done!
