Hair Tutorial: Braided Updo
The Gretchen style has discarded the well-behaved image, becoming more modern than ever! Stylish for Oktoberfest, hip as street style, cool with the evening look. We show you how to create your own crown braid step by step in our hairstyling instructions. The only requirement: Long hair!
Freshly washed, towel dried hair is the starting point for the braided hairstyle. Before blow drying, knead mousse with a strong hold evenly into the hair.
Comb your hair to one side for blow drying.
For more volume loosely knead the hair with the fingers at the hairline while blow drying.
Generously spray on heat protectant and start twisting the hair strand by strand around a curling iron (small diameter). Apply the hot curling iron close to the hairline and wrap the strand around it.
Allow your hair to cool and then brush it back with gentle pressure. This creates a natural, beautiful wave look.
Part the hair into two strands of the same size at the back.
Use thin hair elastics to tie the two strands into low pigtails. Now separate each strand into three and start braiding. Hint: Some styling paste in the hair keeps the strands supple while braiding.
After braiding, fasten the ends of the braids with the thin hair elastics, ideally in the hair colour so they are virtually unnoticeable!
Once both braids are finished, lay one of them across the forehead from the back (about 6 cm behind the hairline).
Secure the braid on the crown with hair pins.
Now lay the second braid over the crown from the other side behind the first one. Hint: Position the braid so it covers the end of the first one. Now secure everything with pins in the hair colour.
Once the crown braid is firmly secured, gently pluck the braids apart to lend nice volume to the hair crown. Then secure the style with hairspray.
The stylish Gretchen braid is the perfect hairstyle for the Wiesn look and also looks great with any other outfit.
