Who says useful cannot be beautiful? While barrettes, bands and clips were often nothing more than practical styling helpers in the past, they are now in the hair limelight! They refine any hairstyle as decorative eye-catchers! We open the treasure chest and present the new accessory highlights

  • Barrettes, hair clips & co. usually lead an inconspicuous existence. Primarily designed as practical styling helpers and often matched to the hair colour, they do their job virtually unnoticed. But now all that is in the past as hair accessories are making their grand entrance! High-end materials and new designs from clean to pompous make it possible. And so these little helpers are transformed into the main attraction. Naturally they retain their usefulness, but now the focus is on their appearance! Visit our gallery to see how this looks.

    Hair Accessories: Smooth leather bands

While other hair bands serve as styling or makeup removal aids at best, this fancy band deserves ultimate attention: At the Proenza Schouler fashion show, the wide band made of smooth black leather drew everyone’s gaze. Worn directly on the hairline, it gives long, open hair a cool styling update. Slightly tease the top hair on the crown before applying the leather band – that makes the elegant look a bit more casual

    Hair Accessories: Gathered leather bands

Next to the version in white (photo above), leather bands in dark brown, orange or black could also be seen with Fendi. They can be used as small dots of colour or discreet details depending on mood, desire and hair colour. In any case the bands made of gathered leather create hot trend looks without a lot of styling effort! Like this ponytail with undone appeal, which does not appear intentional but definitely accomplished!

    Hair Accessories: Strass pins

Trendy glitter clips in the hair are also making eyes sparkle today. Even the simplest hairstyles can be enriched with the brilliant pins. Naturally the glamour clips are not merely decorative. At Prada for example they were used to attach the pigtails tied high on the head at the side above the ear – a brilliant idea!

    Hair Accessories: Flower brooches

We have something special coming to us: These enchanting brooches and decorated barrettes transform any hairstyle into a deluxe look! As delicate buds they either grace individual sections of hair or form entire decorative bouquets around loosely pinned hair knots (blossomed with Dolce & Gabbana). Since DIY is flourishing anyhow, here’s an extra tip: Find your favourite flowers at a craft store and use some hot glue to attach them for example to bobby pins – creating a custom hair accessory!

    Hair Accessories: Barrettes with pin

Minimalism can also make a statement. This is proven by the simple barrettes with pin (seen with Derek Lam). The pin is pushed through the hair and leather-covered barrette. This gives ponytails and updos a new, posh and sophisticated look quickly and easily

  • Tips & tricks for Hair Accessories

Bad hair day? Not much time for styling? A hair accessory can do wonders! A greasy hairline for example can be easily covered with a hair band, and small eye-catchers like Strass pins quickly, easily and effectively upgrade everyday styles.

    – Short hair with comparatively little styling leeway gets an extra glamour kick for the evening with flower brooches or glitter clips.

    – Small clips and barrettes can easily slip out of fine hair. To make sure everything stays in place, tease the section to be attached very slightly first; 'roughed up' this way, the hair offers a larger surface for better hold. It also helps if you apply a bit of hairspray to the little eye-catchers.

    – Skilfully inserted, the small jewels can present various facial shapes in the right light as well: A becoming hair brooch at the crown in combination with a high chignon can stretch a round face, making it look longer. If your face is more narrow and long, pins and clips look good on the sides.
