A short haircut is likely to offer much more leeway for creativity than you may think – for instance, our trendy Pretty Jaws look proves just how changeable chin-length hairdos are. Jennifer Lawrence and Lea Sedoux are among those who dared to make the chin-length cut. We present the most beautiful versions of this multifunctional hairstyle

You want a bob? Go for it – short hair is mega popular right now. There is good reason the bloggers, Instagram users, influencers and stars of this world are duelling with the popular #ShortHairDontCare hashtag. Since the keyword appeared with nearly 1.4 million pictures on Instagram alone, the trend is undeniable. This is also proven by our Pretty Jaws in look – chin-length, classy, a blockbuster among our trendy hairdos for 2016. So you are in the best of company with a short cut. And especially with the bob. What makes it so popular? It is short and therefore practical, but still long enough and therefore feminine. The best thing about it: this mid-length hairdo is easy and versatile to style. The bob offers fashion and styling possibilities like hardly any other haircut – curly, sleek, wavy, knotted, tied up, with hair clips... In addition to the many hairdo facets, we love the bob for its changeability: It can be elegant, cool, sporty, sexy and so much more.

Hollywood has recognised this as well. The most beautiful actresses have parted with their long manes in favour of the bob. Stars are presenting themselves with chin-length hair from casual to super glamorous, demonstrating why they love the hairdo multi-talent so much.

The bob appears especially extravagant with straight hair. An exact cut makes it sophisticated. The base length extends to the chin (front strands and back of the neck), the sides fall asymmetrically from the front to the clavicles. Bob and clavi-cut come together in this hairdo as an absolutely trendy duo! Be sure to style this look with a centre parting to bring it out to perfection.

  • How it’s done:
Form a centre parting and apply heat protectant to the hair. Then work the hair strand by strand with the straightening iron. Turn the tips in very slightly. Finally apply gloss spray to the hairdo for ultra-sleek chic.

  • Kristen Steward & co. also show us how changeable the chin-length bob is – see for yourself:

Girl next door: Kristen Stewart goes for the good girl look with soft waves in gold blonde. But wait: the crisp, short, trendy cut gives the look that something extra. A centre parting lets the hair fall loosely with a modern appearance (extra-modern with a darker hairline), one side secured behind the ear adds a rebellious touch and red lips make a sexy finish. Well-behaved? No, powerful!

How it’s done: In the evening before going to bed, wash your hair and let it dry slightly. Form a centre parting and make several small braids in the slightly damp hair – a bit away from the hairline. Open them up the next morning, pluck into shape with your fingertips, apply hairspray and you are done!

The fine difference: Taylor Swift also wears super-soft waves, but with a side parting and fringe (styled over the face with high volume). This makes the look more mature and wild. With this wavy bob, the singer radiates power and sexiness at once – appearing tough, casual or ladylike depending on the styling and makeup. We like!

How it’s done: Apply a tennis ball sized portion of mousse to towel-dried hair and form a centre parting. Apply heat protectant to the lengths and blow dry the hair. Use a straightening iron to create soft waves in the hair by twisting individual strands vertically with the styler. Allow to cool and apply hairspray – then shine with your sense of style!

    Chin-Length Hair: Easy Half-Back

    Chin-Length Hair: Easy Half-Back

Simple and a guaranteed success: The bob in the curly look comes in yet another popular version as a hip half-back à la Hilary Duff. She casually styles the top hair back with gel, pins it up and leaves the rest loose. Also works with straight hair by the way!

How it’s done: Create slight waves in the hair (see Kristen Stewart styling). Apply a hazelnut sized portion of gel to the hairdo and then bring the top hair back loosely. Pin it with hair clips at half height. Finally secure the look with hair spray. Leave a few strands out of the front section for the undone look

    Chin-Length Hair: Attractive Twist

    Chin-Length Hair: Attractive Twist

Long live the bob: anyone who thinks the bob will not work with an updo has gone askew – and should definitely try a new twist. Mid-length hair is actually great for updos, since it promises better hold and is easier to style than a very long mane. The best example: Elisabeth Moss! As the actress demonstrates, tying it low at the back of the neck is best. Then twist or twirl into a knot – très chic.

How it’s done: Form a centre parting and tease the chin-length hair into a small quiff at the hairline. Bring the lengths together severely and make a small French twist at the back of the head. Then secure everything with bobby pins and apply hair lacquer to the hairdo
