First off: we all have dandruff. But it does not cause problems for everyone. The formation of dandruff is a normal process since our skin, and therefore also our scalp, replaces itself about every four weeks. Dandruff is really nothing more than dead skin cells. Nothing to worry about, unless you suffer from overproduction. Normally dandruff is not even visible. It is so microscopically small that combing, brushing or washing invisibly disposes of it. So how does dandruff become a problem? When the scalp renews itself every two instead of every four weeks. After this amount of time, the many dead cells stick to each other and then come off the scalp in large chunks, making dandruff visible. They fall onto the neck and shoulders like small, bright snowflakes. But no worries, this unwanted hair problem is easy to control by taking the right steps.
5 Tips Against Dandruff
1. Pamper your scalp
Treat your scalp the same way you care for the rest of your skin: with lots of attention and love. Avoid all irritation, from washing with excessively hot water to vigorous rubbing while drying with a towel to hard brushing or blow drying at excessively high temperatures. All of that stresses your scalp and dries it out more.
2. Use dandruff shampoo
You can wash your hair daily to remove the loose skin cells. The right care product is important here. Choose a dandruff shampoo since these products contain germ-killing substances at a low dosage, eliminating dandruff so it no longer lands on your collar.
Note: You can use dandruff shampoo every day for a month with no concern. After that, applying the product once a week is sufficient. It is best to wash your hair with a mild shampoo in between. You can switch to a normal shampoo entirely again after about half a year.
3. Apply an oil therapy treatment
Since hair is quasi 'degreased' by regular washing so the scalp can dry out more easily, experts recommend oil therapy. Before going to bed, simply apply a few drops of olive oil to your scalp with a pipette and let it work overnight. Just wash out the oil with a mild shampoo in the morning to keep your scalp healthy!
4. Use the right styling product
Be sure to use products with little or no alcohol, since it too can dry the scalp out excessively. Products that do not have to touch the scalp directly are preferred – so it is better to style your hair with hairspray than gel or wax.
5. A good haircut
The right haircut makes hair care much easier when you have dandruff. For example, a short cut has a crucial advantage with daily washing: the hair is faster to wash and dry compared to a long mane. The hairstyle can also help if you have not yet eliminated dandruff entirely and want to hide it with your hair: avoid severe centre partings and choose curls and waves over the sleek look – since smooth and parted hair makes dandruff visible. A loose top knot and messy updo are the preferred hairstyle versions.
