Gabi Fresh on hair trends and favorite styles
Which current hair trend do you like the most?
A blonde bob, especially the longer ones.
Would you go for an extreme hairstyle like the buzzcut?
I would definitely go for a short cut, but probably not a buzzcut on me. I did have a Mohawk with curly hair on top in my early twenties, though.
How do you like to wear your hair in daily life?
Just natural. I love my natural curls. I just dry it naturally, spray a little product in and I'm ready to go.
What’s your look on a Sunday if there is no event or photo session?
I wear a pineapple ponytail on the top of my head, so all the curls fall down.
What is your daily styling routine?
I don't always shampoo my hair, but I always condition it with leave in conditioner. I use styling gel on wet hair when I come out of the shower and let it dry naturally for a little bit, then use a diffuser. Then I do a little shake and scrunch to make it bigger and finally I use my hair-pick.
What’s your insider tip for a glamorous hairstyle that always looks stylish?
No matter which hair type you have, if it's straight or wavy or curly, braids make any look more elegant and glamourous.
Gabi Fresh's favorite hair products and ultimate hair secret
Name three hair and beauty products you always carry in your travel bag.
Dry shampoo and my hair-pick (for styling my afro). These two together make my hair big. I love a lot of volume. And I love Glossier lip gloss.
What was your biggest hair faux pas and how did you fix it?
Probably my mohawk, because I cut it myself. And the first time I bleached my hair (before Schwarzkopf did it for me), I fried my hair. I went too blonde too quickly and used straighteners on top of it, so I just had to cut it off.
What’s your ultimate hair secret?
The hair-pick. It changed my life. My hair, even though it's curly, is very fine. And I like big hair. After you dry your hair, you pick it out with the hair-pick and make it look bigger than it really is.
Gabi Fresh on inspiring women, role models and confidence boosters
What hairstyle will you wear when you’re 70?
Honestly, I hope I will have my natural hair. I love natural grey hair, so I will wear my silver curls.
Who is a real (hair) role model for you and why?
I love Solange Knowles. She has beautiful hair and always wears different styles, playing with the natural African-American texture of her hair. She always has really amazing editorial hairstyles.
Who inspires you?
Beyoncé, because she is so fearless and powerful. She empowers women to stand up for themselves and be who they are. And she works really really hard. I'm inspired by how hard she works.
If you could be someone else for a day, whose life would you want to live?
Michelle Obama. I appreciate her so much and would love to spend a day in her life.
What do you like most about yourself and what’s your ultimate confidence booster?
I like my hips and my butt, they are the best. An ultimate confidence booster is hanging out with my friends and being around other women who also feel good about themselves. It automatically makes you feel good when other people are positive. It is really nice to be surrounded by women who compliment each other and encourage each other.
Gabi Fresh's take on beauty
…in the eye of the beholder and an individual, subjective thing. Everyone thinks something different is beautiful. You shouldn't spend your life trying to be beautiful for other people. It comes from the inside!
Short or long hair?
Which hairstyle is 100% you?
Wild and carefree hair. Effortless. A little bit messy and a little bit wild.
What do you like most about your curls?
I like that they do their own thing and I just follow.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
You are beautiful just the way you are, you shouldn't have to change yourself, your body or your personality to please other people. Your individuality makes you you!
