The best 2016 Oscar hairdos

Best movie, best actor, best look... While the stars of the hour were honoured before and during the 88th Oscar Awards, we have an added prize for them: our Hair Award! We are recognising hairdos made for the movies, glamorous looks and the most exciting hairstyles of the 2016 Oscars – here are the winners by category...

Wow, what a night at the Oscars! On 28 February 2016 the stars once again celebrated themselves at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles during the 88th Academy Awards. Not only movies played a leading role. Heated and controversial discussions about this year’s Oscars led up to the event: How are the VIPs dealing with the debate about skin colour and gender, will Leonardo DiCaprio finally get his first golden boy and which red carpet dresses will be the most breath-taking?

Moderator Chris Rock made an impression with clear statements in his opening speech: While he came on stage to “Fight the Power” by Public Enemy, the witty actor did not shy away from speaking plainly. He met the #OscarSoWhite boycott with black humour (reason: For the second time in a row, no black actors were nominated for an Oscar): “People say it’s not fair that he did such a good job and didn’t get nominated,” Rock said. “It’s also not fair that he got $20 million for ‘Wild Wild West.’”

Entertainment got its due, serious issues notwithstanding. Superb movies, prize-worthy fashion and even more awards – since we are now presenting the Hair Oscars.

Finally together: After six unsuccessful nominations, Leonardo DiCaprio wins the Oscar for best actor in 2016

First the news of the night: We can all breathe a sigh of relief as Leo finally goes down in Oscar film history as a radiant victor. The perpetual bachelor and perpetual nominee (who went empty-handed six times) earned the coveted trophy for his leading role in the revenge drama “The Revenant”. His styling was a relief as well: While he was still battling his way through movie history with a 300-day beard in the last few months, he came to Los Angeles looking stylish in a black tuxedo with bow tie and a great hairdo (gelled in the popular comb-over) to accept the first Oscar of his career.
